There are many things that can be done to preserve and promote male fertility. This includes taking a healthy and well-balanced diet, exercising regularly, no smoking, reducing stress, not taking recreational drugs and keeping the weight in ideal range. It is also advisable to avoid wearing underwear that is too tight as it can affect the circulation of blood.
If after few months of unprotected intercourse, couple is not able to conceive, it is advisable to meet the general practitioner as a couple. General Practitioner would be able to identify the cause of male fertility problem, or would refer you to a fertility specialist usually gynaecologist, urologist or a specialist in reproductive medicine. For men with obstructive problems, vasectomy reversal maybe a good option. In-vitro fertilisation offers good chances of pregnancy, but the success is not guaranteed and the procedure is quite expensive.
The truth is, most of the disorders that affect quality of sperm either cannot be cured or do not respond to the treatment. But, assisted conception techniques (ACPs), including use of donated sperm, have helped many couples to achieve successful pregnancy despite severe sperm production problems.
